it's so funny...to this day, i am still receiving comments on a piece i wrote about being in marching band. i decided tonight to take a look at it and well...it wasn't as fabulous as i had remembered it. there were definitely parts that i could improve to make it more powerful and more meaningful but i won't. for a couple reasons...some of them being that i'm not in band anymore and it's ceased to be such a priority in my life and 2. i feel like the piece i had written expresses who i was at that time. today, i would write about teaching and kids and the inequalities that exist. and i'll think it's great work...or i'll take photos of the changing fall leaves and think it's fabulous...and you never really notice how bad you were until you grow...it's not until you have some distance in between yourself and your creation that you see it with a new set of eyes, with more experienced eyes.

i find it humorous that i am still receiving comments on a piece that i believe to need improvement and that could be so much more powerful.

and it's even more humorous that as i'm writing this, i'm realizing that these days i don't ever have time to write or draw or paint. i'm going on a retreat pretty soon..maybe i'll have some time to breathe then.
